About Brookgreen Gardens

Formerly four separate plantations, Brookgreen Gardens was transformed into the first public sculpture garden in the United States when purchased by its founders, Archer & Anna Hyatt Huntington, in 1931. Located just south of Myrtle Beach, SC in Murrells Inlet, Brookgreen Gardens is 9,000 acres of Lowcountry beauty from the native plants of the southeast to the largest outdoor collection of American figurative sculpture in the world. Anna Hyatt Huntington, herself an artist, created the massive sculpture, Fighting Stallions, that graces the entrance to Brookgreen Gardens.

Tours can be taken by boat, the Trekker tour vehicle or leisurely stroll on foot through the gardens. Not only will guests experience the rich history of the Lowcountry and the beautiful botanical and sculpture gardens, but you can also get to know the “locals” at the Lowcountry Zoo and Native Animal Habitat. Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark, is open daily and hosts many events and exhibits throughout the year.
