The mission of the South Carolina Maritime Museum is to preserve and promote the maritime history of Georgetown and South Carolina. With the community support and the financial success of the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show, the museum, our volunteers, and our board are steering toward the future. Construction will soon begin and during this process, we hope to remain open to our Georgetown visitors in some capacity and invite the public to salute the spring equinox with our museum’s event, Burning of the Socks, to be held Thursday, March 23, 2017. www.scmaritimemuseum.org
We embrace our history and heritage with pride.
The South Carolina Maritime Museum was opened December 2011 at the site of the historic McCory’s five and dime store building located on the waterfront in the center of Georgetown’s business district at 729 Front St in Georgetown. It is operated by the Harbor Historical Association (HHA), a (501) (c) (3) organization.
